My friend Melissa at SewBitterSweetDesigns and Shanna at Fiber of All Sorts are hosting a year-long linky party to motivate us to finish up our stagnant projects. I meant to begin in January so I could have a whole year of finishes, I did, I really did. All of a sudden it is March and this is my first one so I guess I will just have 10 months of lovely finishes.
Last summer, I bought a layer cake of Sew Stitchy and the embroidery squares panel was a freebie from the seller. I began by cutting the embroidery squares to 5.5" and framing them with 2.5" strips of the printed fabric. I alternated them with the opposite - a square of print framed with "snow" Kona cotton. I wasn't liking the result - it somehow seemed a little boring to me, too predictable. So I decided to add a second frame which required the additional purchase of a jelly roll. It has still been piled up and waiting for me to notice it. I recently pulled it out and trimmed the frame down to a 1" finished width and trimmed the jelly roll strips to a 1.5" finished width. That small change made a big difference to me and now I am liking it again. With a week of spring break coming up and the Sew South Retreat (so excited), my goal for March is to complete the top and get it basted. Wish me luck!
